Stuff

Much to say. For starters, Epic 32 is up over in the Civ section. Much funness. Now on to Epics 35 and 36. Also playing some HRE, and it's going...harshly. Byzantine rampages, the French... bad times. Bad times.

Also, a few Tonto blogs to advertise. Some of you with blogs already read here, so no use advertising to you, but...

Regina
Simfish
Mobely

Regina, as has been noted, has started a fad.

On another note, I FINALLY[1] finished Norman Davies' The Isles: A History today. Overview of the UK and Ireland from earliest times to 1999. It's a good read, does just what one expects it to do, though it misses a few gaps here and there, but it's only a 1-volume 1,058 pager. You expect that. Except when he gets up to post-1707, he pretty much leaves out all the political history. Lots of good social history and such, but lacking the political backing to it all sort of kills it off. But before that, it's not bad.

[1] - Finally, you ask? Finally. I originally started reading it about a year ago. Got the book for Xmas. Read off and on through the early year. Finally, I finish.

A few things. Your links are borked, fix them.

Regina, you really should get Dwip to set you up as an author here. You can get your own subdomain (ie regina.alsherok.net), have a completely customizable blog, and allow people like me to leave comments (because I am NOT going to get myself a Xanga account).

Also, I like to (randomly) use parentheses.

Howzzat sound to you, Marius? ;)

Posted by: Regina at August 20, 2003 2:41 PM

zat sounds to me like I'd be down with it, cept I need to talk to assorted about the technical details. IE, Samson, I'd imagine. A provisional yes, as it were.

Would allow people like me to leave comments, too, 'cause I'm not liking the register for a Xanga account thing either.

Do I hear an echo (echo) in here? :P

Cool! Can it be in a more cheerful color than forest green? ;)

Posted by: Regina at August 20, 2003 7:21 PM

nope. You're limited to that and black...and white text, only white! Maybe a shade of gray, but that's pushing it ;)

ROFL

There are several MT templates to choose from, which you can see by going to http://www.moveabletype.org/default_styles.shtml# and checking out the screen shots. There are a good few light background styles, and a couple dark ones.

Obviously Dwip's blog is completely custom. Teaching him HTML and CSS was fun... But you could customize your blog to make it look however you like also, which is the best part of MT. And if you're sketchy on HTML/CSS, Dwip and I can help you out with that.

Right Dwip? Dwip? Oh dear. I think he's run off.

Posted by: Whir at August 21, 2003 11:05 AM

while we're on the subject of customizing, would it be possible to move the "cancel" and "post" buttons around? As in, switch their places? I keep hitting cancel when I'm trying to post, so I lose my comments :-/

Posted by: toasty at August 21, 2003 11:38 AM

Yup. It can be done. Whether Dwip is that ambitious or not, I don't know.

Posted by: Whir at August 21, 2003 2:25 PM

Dwip maybe isn't, because it would really screw him up. And Dwip doesn't like being screwed up. We'll see.

Dwip is, however, ambitious enough to brave the wilds of MT installations. More on that later.

My knowledge of html extends to customizing a template webpage (see, Neopets was good for something :P), and I haven't a clue how CSS works. So I'll have to learn. Marius, do you remember that site for learning HTML Alyantis used to plug?

And do you two (Whir and Marius) know each other from real life, or just online?

Posted by: Regina at August 21, 2003 4:44 PM

We'll teach ya. Not hard. Frustrating, but not hard.

Can't remember the site.

And just online. Since, um, '96 or '97, I forget which.

Posted by: Dwip at August 21, 2003 5:16 PM

Earlier than that, probably 95 at least. I know that we were on Shard for at least all of my senior year...

And ya, CSS is cake. You'll pick it up in about five minutes. I'll see if I can scrape up a good reference site for you. I have a big book. :)

I find the W3C site is arright. There's got to be better though.

And it had to be at least 3rd week of Jan 96, because that's when I started. So probably way early '96. I know I met Samson pretty quick 'cause of Cart Guild, and I met, uh, Cam pretty early, I think it was because he was, uh, Flint, IIRC. And Serpent 'cause he was darkelf at the time. I've forgotten when I met everyone else.

I don't think we really swung until I immorted under Tek and got into GR. And you were the only imm younger than me, other than Sol.

Posted by: Whir at August 21, 2003 11:53 PM

Nah. I think Gazban was pretty damn young. Like 15 or something at the time. Somebody like that. 'cause I was like "Yeah! I'm the youngest imm!" and Rogue or somebody was like "Nah, you're almost, but not quite."

And you missed the Murik days. Lucky you.

Posted by: Dwip at August 21, 2003 11:56 PM

try this one (it's the one aly talks about I think): Dhttp://www.davesite.com/webstation/html/index.shtml

sidenote, html doesn't work here, and not knowing that and trying preview to find out means you lose the code, including the appropriate linkage...ah well, I still had it under copy/paste, so np :)

Posted by: toasty at August 22, 2003 7:41 AM

Dwip must have it shut off in his reply thing. You can activate it so you can enter straight HTML in the reply box and it'll format it as such.
