This is a particularly sad bit of news. Firstly, I'm all for democracy, but I live in the same country as any number of very stupid people, and this saddens me. Secondly, just a TAD late there, eh Mr. President? Because it would of course be horrible of you to make the statement back when it mattered, like, oh, before the war, when everyone was chanting "Let's go bomb Iraq because they helped with 9/11" and you were saying shit about how Al Queda and Saddam were working hand in hand, now wouldn't it? Because that wasn't a fucking stupid claim to base a war on or anything.
You know, the more I think about it, the more I see shit like this, I grow exceedingly tired of Bush and his lying, his incompetence in running a peace let alone anything else, and let's ignore for the moment that I never did like his politics.
And then there's Ashcroft, but let's not go there.
And things like This make me wonder why everyone in my country wonders why nobody likes us.
Speaking of religious fanatics in government, I think This is hilarious. Mostly because they'll never accept. The monument itself is...not good.
Posted by Dwip at September 17, 2003 4:56 PMWhat gets me is that the gov't KNEW people were thinking that, and allowed them to go on thinking it...
And yeah. We ain't so hot right 'bout now. Afghanistan, anyone? And the second thing...yeah. It gives a little credence to the (dead wrong) claim the Palestinians make that the Jewish cartels run America. We're giving Israel carte blanche, and that may not be the smartest thing to do if we want peace in the ME.
Not that I have a much higher opinion of the Democrats at this point, seeing as how their platform seems to be "Bush is stupid, but we know how to do it right!" rather than actual ideas and a platform that's not based on negating what Bush has done. Because you can't say, "Bush screwed xyz up, and so we're just going to criticize him, figure out what he did wrong, and base our whole policy on its opposite." You have to come in there with some principles that hold regardless of who's currently in the Oval Office and then figure out how to adapt them to improve the current situation.
Which also reminds me that people who think the best way to fix any messes is to put into practice their original plan (i.e., "we never should have been in Iraq, so we fix it by getting out now.") Nuh-uh. You gotta work with what circumstances you got using overarching principles.
This is my political theory, or such as I have at the age of 15. Tell me if it actually makes sense.

Tell me 'bout it.

I think you've pretty much hit it, yes.
Been thinking about the Dems a lot lately, and I've come to the conclusion that I'll likely vote for whoever the Dem candidate is come the election, because Bush really is that bad, but. The Democratic Party, and this was somewhat true of the Republicans in Clinton's day but moreso of the Dems now, lives to be an anti-party. Which is of course every bit the problem that sounds like. Having done some surfing of candidates, well, Dean and Edwards look marginally passable, and all the other ones look pretty non-good. I've yet to look into Clark.
Bush, of course, annoys me on so many levels I can't even remember them all.

Posted by: BN_Chili at September 17, 2003 6:22 PMThe media controls America, and the government knows it. They use it to their advantage. Hence the smear campaigns. The simple American folk are swayed by smear campaigns. It goes all the way back to the cave man days. Whoever growls the loudest controls the cave (and the women - woohoo!).
Posted by: Whir at September 18, 2003 1:39 AMHiya BN! :)
Posted by: Dwip at September 18, 2003 1:40 AMyeah, I sorta remember us talking about Iraq quite a bit... interesting how you already back then never used al qaeda as an argument, while the entire press was basically screaming about it constantly. Good thing :)
Still waiting for some report on the whole Weapons of Mass Destruction though. None found yet, right? Wow, why am I not surprised?
And does anyone but me see the irony in vetoing that resolution? France, Germany and Russia?!?!? Bah I say, bah!
And on a happier note, it's sunny outside :D
Posted by: toasty at September 18, 2003 8:13 AMHiya _Marius ;)
I usually don't ever comment anything on politics, but it was sorta an excuse to post here for the first time.
That, and Tonto's server was down at that time =P
And while I'm at it, Ola to everybody around here =D
