Soundgarden for the win.
So, Saturday, here. Spent Friday mostly freaking right the hell out about school, URI starting the 20th of this month, etc, calmed slightly by a few kind souls. So Saturday I'm settling down for some serious Getting Shit Ready To Go work, when Dad comes in with the mail. "You might want to check this," he says, handing me an SCSU envelope.
And I quote:
"Dear Erik:
I am pleased to notify you that the Admission committee has recommended your acceptance into the Master of Library Science degree program. All newly admitted students must immediately file a planned program in order to matriculate into the program."
Etc, etc.
So I'm more or less into SCSU, which is where I really wanted to go, and which means I won't be leaving until August or so. So you all here in OR have me for a few more months.
In other news, after some pressure by Whir, I decided to actually fix my laptop, which has been sitting minus a hard drive for months now. My main issue was the connector on the HD I bought, and the connector on the actual laptop are two entirely different things, which wasn't so good. So I thought I needed an adapter or something, since the people swore to me this HD worked.
*fiddle, fiddle*
"Wait," I say. "This thing on the dead HD. The connector. It looks like it comes off. Maybe it does."
*pulls* *adapter comes off, revealing normal pin-type connector*
"Woot!" I say, plugging the adapter onto the new HD, and ripping off the foil covering of the old HD (why it was wrapped in foil is beyond me), and putting on the new one, which shortly led to...
...my DVD drive not reading the recovery CD, because it's a piece of shit drive. However, taking it out and putting it back in fixed the issue, which shortly led to...

Rocking it, ASCII style. Woot.
And suffice it to say that it all worked at that point. I think you've heard more Windows XP install stories than you want to by now.
I also got another new toy, but I'll talk about that when it gets here.
To say that Saturday was a complete turnaround from Friday may, in fact, be understating the point.

TRANSITIVE & INTRANSITIVE VERB: Inflected forms: ma·tric·u·lat·ed, ma·tric·u·lat·ing, ma·tric·u·lates
To admit or be admitted into a group, especially a college or university.
NOUN: (-lt, -lt) One who is admitted as a student to a college or university.
Are you sure you want to get a degree at a place that uses big words wrong? I are frightened at the prospectus.
