| Fire Moth SR |
| The 17th Raven Striker Cluster's version of the Fire Moth omnimech involves adding an additional half ton of armor while decreasing the weapons bay tonnage. This additional armor is spread across the torsos and arms, and each torso is now capable of stopping a single Clan medium laser hit. This extra protection does not make the Fire Moth SR invincible, but does allow for a slightly lengthened battlefield life. The additional armor can be added easily by almost any competent technician in less than a day, which means that a few Beta Galaxy and garrison units beyond the 17th field Fire Moth SRs. |
| Capabilities |
| Fire Moth SRs are used by the 17th in a variety of supporting roles.
With their targeting computers, firepower, and speed, they are
excellent ambush 'mechs, able to hit an enemy hard, then fade into
cover quickly. They are also used to ferry the Elementals of Gamma
Supernova Trinary into battle.
Most configurations of the Fire Moth SR are based on the Fire Moth D configuration, presumably picked up by Star Colonel Siegel during his sojourn among the Ghost Bears. Noting certain inefficiencies, the Star Colonel updated the configuration during his redesign, replacing the flamer with extra armor, and using the overheating fifth laser's place to mount other equipment. The Primary configuration mounts four medium lasers linked to a targeting computer, and mounts an additional pair of machine guns for anti-infantry work. This configuration is commonly used as a command mech in raiding stars. The A configuration replaces the machine guns with a TAG pod, which can be used to call down artillery or aerospace forces on enemy positions. A common tactic amongst the 17th is to hide A variant Fire Moth SRs in ambush, calling down aerospace fighters from Delta Wing to rain Arrow IV homing missiles on the unsuspecting enemy. The B configuration replaces the machine guns with an active probe, and one of these always acts as a scout in every star. The C configuration replaces the machine guns with an ECM suite, and at least one is always assigned to every star. The D configuration is sometimes used in place of the Primary, and mounts nothing but a trio of medium pulse lasers. The E configuration is sometimes used as a fire support mech, and mounts a trio of LRM 5 launchers and a pair of medium lasers. This configuration is rarely used except when near to ammunition supplies. The F configuration is a test bed for a few of the ATM launchers acquired from Clan Coyote, and mounts a pair of ATM 3 launchers and a medium laser. Only one or two of these has ever been used. The G configuration is sometimes used in place of the Primary in urban fighting, and mounts a pair of SRM 2 launchers, two machine guns, and a trio of medium lasers for antimech work. |
