Epic 25: Numismatic Numidians

Being the report for the Realms Beyond Civilization Epic 25, the rules for which can be found here.

The scoring for this is really, REALLY complex. But this is RBCiv, where we thrive on such things, yes?

The plan, well... Pretty much dependent upon whatever the AI researches, because there can be NO research of our own. Wonder prebuilds are going to be essential.

Give Peace a Chance

And lo, I was RBCiv-25 of the Carth...Numidians, long-lost brother of RBCiv-24 of the Carthaginians.

Lots of food, some nice hills, on a river, gold in sight, wines... It is pronounced to be a good spot, and the city of Carth...wait, we're Numidians...Jugarthaville is founded. Our scientists want direction, and...wait, we have scientists? This won't do. <muted screams are heard from out behind the palace> Much better.

It becomes very apparent very quickly that this is some of the most godly terrain anyone has ever seen. Gems nearby, furs nearby, plenty of rivers, plenty of hills, and a Spanish warrior to the southwe...argh.

Thucydides completes his epic history of the world in 3000 BC, listing the Numidians in their proper place as the richest nation of all time. The bribe he recieved is, of course, not mentioned.

The Romans come wandering in at the same time, and have a whole LOT of tech. Fortunately, Masonry is the most expensive thing on the planet, and Caesar will take that and 48 gold for Ceremonial Burial, Pottery, and Bronze Working. Our path to the Colossus is now clear, if only there was a city to construct it in...

In 2470, our second city, Utica, is founded, with the dual purposes of securing gems and the Colossus.

In 2310, we meet up with Gandhi of the Indians far to the west, who is more than happy to take Masonry and 65 gold in return for the Wheel and Warrior Code.

Leptis Magna becomes our third city in 2150, securing furs and cows to the north of Jugarthaville. In 1700 a fourth city is added near the spices and horses to the northwest, and the Numidian Empire looks like this:

In 1575, we trade Rome 130 gold for Iron Working. And yes indeed, Jugarthavilla has iron nearby.

And of course we soon realize the problems of leaving oneself undefended:

The Numidian military, you ask? One warrior.

And they know it.

Writing is acquired for 170 gold in 1425 BC, and then Mysticism for Writing and 30 gold in 1400.

And now, for today's weed story:

They got my worker, too. Wasn't even paying attention. Doh.

95 gold to Caesar will get me Horseback Riding. He has Map Making, but I can't afford it.

In 1150, Caesar establishes an embassy in Jugarthaville. Hey, good idea, Caesar! Embassies are quickly established.

In 950 BC, we trade 150 gold for Mathematics.

For some reason, Rome declares war on India in 900 BC. Yay Rome.

In 775 BC, 240 gold to Spain gets us Map Making, which is traded to India for Philosophy and the Indian map.

In 650 BC, we trade 165 gold to Gandhi for Code of Laws, and we're caught up in the tech race.

In 470, Bangalore beats us to the Colossus by 12 turns. Switch to the Lighthouse.

In 450, we trade 365 gold for Construction.

And finally, in 410, we get a harbor. Fortunately, nobody else has one yet.

I get a barbarian uprising message in 350, but don't see any. As I'm wondering where they are...
