It's a Wonderful Life |
| In 560, 870 gold goes to England for Banking, and a
further 880 for Astronomy from France. Wines and 140 to Spain are
sufficient for Printing Press. Fortunately, having paid third civ or so
for all those techs, the rest of the world is so poor they're still at
Education, and Rome and India are pretty much the ass end of the world.
Bad Rome. Bad, bad Rome.
Sort of incidentally, I actually DO build a wonder. It's about the last wonder I need, but it's a wonder.
And of course that very turn the French pull out Economics, so I miss Smith's by like a turn. Go figure. Jugarthaville is cranking on it, but given the workings of cascades, hope is bleak. Nevertheless. Somewhere in here, I also realize I totally forgot about when my bank came in. Whatever 15 turns after 560 AD is, not that I have a screenshot. By 760 AD, I have tons. 900 AD sees an intense round of trading, after which I'm up by every single missing tech, and the world is all of Magnetism from advancing an age. Also that year, I get fatally wounded by the cascade, which wipes out about 5 wonders including Smiths with 5 turns left to go. As it happens, I get a runner-up prize anyway.
Useless except for the denial value, of course, but oh well. Meanwhile, of course, the AIs are having gigantic uberwars, which is slowing down the tech pace an awful lot. Also, France is very frightening:
In 960, we trade for Magnetism, and Numidia becomes the second nation in the world to enter the Industrial Age. England and Spain are almost given Magnetism to get them advanced. |
