...Is Give Peace A Chance...
And a bit later, Beth comes demanding 63 gold. Well...no. This time, of course, she doesn't back down. Figures. All things considered, I can't say as how I'm worried.

Meanwhile...

"Hey, Alex. How about some Gunpowder? Oh, you want furs and 290 gold? Sure thing. Sure thing."

And we have saltpeter at Pompeii and Heraklia, even. And, um, Greece hasn't got any. That's fairly amusing, really.

You ever have one of those games where it's just NOT your game?

Can't say as how I've ever had occasion for this to happen, either:

He says, piking the 1hp knight to death.

Nevertheless, Beth doesn't want to talk peace yet, but isn't sending anymore troops, either.

Meanwhile...

"Hi, Izzy, how ab...say, you haven't got any saltpeter. Terrible tragedy. How about I trade you ours?"

And then to top that off, Beth gives peace a chance.

And, er, we're all the way caught up in tech, making tons of cash, and, uh, nobody but Spain has Magnetism yet, and nobody's got ToG.

Time passes. In 1030 AD, Spain declared war on the English, again.

And lo, in 1060 AD, I traded for Magnetism, having previous acquired ToG for furs and 260 gold, and catapulted myself a few turns behind the pack into the Industrial Age, where Greece had Steam Power and Nationalism, and everyone else just had Steam Power.

And lo, in 1110 AD, Steam Power came unto the people of Rome, and, um. Crap. We haven't got any coal. This is really bad.

"Uh, Boss? Why's coal so important? Can't we do without it like we are with saltpeter?"

"Flunkius, shut up."

Well, there's the coal. Now, how to get it?

This might possibly be one of the strangest deals I've ever made. My only saltpeter that's hooked up for the tech I need to get the saltpeter-based units I need to get the coal. Oh boy.

Well, Greece got saltpeter from SOMEWHERE.

The moment of truth. I have 3 turns left on my saltpeter roading, at which time I can upgrade horses to cavalry and take my coal. Alex comes walking up, demanding my map and 100 gold. I can spare it easily, but no.

In AD 1240

War was beginning.
Alex: What happen?
Mechanic: Somebody set us up the bomb.
Operator: We get signal.
Alex: What!
Operator: Main telegraph turn on.
Alex: It's You!
RBCiv-31: How are you gentlemen!!
RBCiv-31: All your coal are belong to us.
RBCiv-31: You are on the way to destruction.
Alex: What you say!!
RBCiv-31: You have no chance to survive make your time.

(sorry, sorry. But it had to be done sometime. It's that sort of report, you know?)

Weather the first turn of attacks... Weather the second turn of attacks...

Playtime, Alex.

(A slight digression here. I feel a bit cheesy upgrading all the way from horses, but: 5 or so of those had been sitting around since the last war. I JUST got the workers to road the other saltpeter, or I wouldn't have done it in the first place, and I deliberately didn't build about 5 more horses. We'll see how my conscience fares afterwards.)
